Doma/NATIC appoints Marilyn Cunningham as Mid-Atlantic Regional Underwriting Counsel

MIAMI – July 8, 2022 – Doma Title Insurance, Inc. (fka North American Title Insurance Company) has appointed Marilyn Cunningham as Vice President, Mid-Atlantic Regional Underwriting Counsel. In this role, Cunningham provides underwriting guidance and support to Doma title agents and attorneys in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., where she holds title producer licenses. She also supports Doma agents on residential and commercial transactions impacting multiple jurisdictions.

Cunningham began her career more than 30 years ago as an associate attorney for a regional law firm. She went on to serve in vice president and counsel roles at several companies, including a regional title insurance underwriter and a boutique settlement service company. After launching her own title company and an IT consulting firm, Cunningham served as title review attorney for a national title insurance underwriter.

During her title industry career, Cunningham has published and presented on a variety of real estate finance and title-related topics, including title examinations; resolving title defects; closing procedures; ALTA forms; endorsements; mechanics liens; foreclosures and short sales; fraud; legislative and regulatory matters; and the unauthorized practice of law.

“Throughout the course of her career, Marilyn has acted as agency counsel for a national underwriter and a title review attorney, and managed title and settlement relating to land acquisitions,” said Sara Valenz, Doma Vice President and Deputy Chief Underwriting Counsel. “Having been in the agent’s position before, Marilyn has the local insight necessary to resolve title issues and get transactions closed. She also has the knowledge to resourcefully respond to underwriting requests in the busy Mid-Atlantic market.”

Cunningham earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia, and a Juris Doctor degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She is a member of the Virginia Bar and the Virginia Land Title Association.

“I am in awe of Doma’s long-term vision, enthusiasm and commitment to delivering an accelerated and pleasant experience to our customers,” Cunningham said. “With more than 30 years of title experience in the Beltway region, I bring a teaching state of mind, solution-oriented focus and a sharing heart. Doma has an impressive depth of underwriting expertise and a dedication to education that would attract any title professional. I look forward to assisting others to bring their title opportunities and challenges to a successful conclusion, enabling customers to get into their new homes or offices.”
