NATIC appoints James Rogers as Mountain Regional underwriting counsel

MIAMI – August 19, 2021 – North American Title Insurance Co. (NATIC) has added James Rogers, Esq., to its underwriting team. Serving as underwriting counsel for NATIC’s Mountain Region, Rogers assists with underwriting decisions pertinent to residential and commercial properties in the states of Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Wyoming, as well as expansion into new states in NATIC’s Midwest and Western Regions.
Rogers brings to NATIC nearly 20 years of transactional legal experience with emphasis on real estate transactions, including title insurance, title opinion rendering, survey review and closing. After starting his career as underwriting counsel and title department manager for a title agency in South Dakota, Rogers served as claims attorney for a top national title insurance underwriter and general counsel for a regional title company based in Omaha, Nebraska. Prior to joining NATIC, he served as senior manager of collateral and corporate attorney for a national cooperative bank serving rural America.
“James’ background working for a major lending institution brings a unique, behind-the-scenes perspective on meeting lender demands,” said Valerie Jahn-Grandin, NATIC’s executive vice president and chief underwriting counsel. “He always has a smile on his face and is willing to dive in and help agents on any topic, any time. His positive attitude, combined with his legal experience in several states, will strengthen our agent relationships and help our agents stay current on local and national changes.”
Throughout his career, Rogers has focused on multistate, multisite, high-dollar commercial transactions. He has also handled internal corporate governance matters including contact and affidavit drafting and review, federal and state legal compliance, and claims administration.
“After working as a title agent, producer and abstractor, and for a farm credit lender, I was attracted to this opportunity to return to the title industry and work for a progressive, game-changing company,” Rogers said. “I expect NATIC’s blend of industry-leading technology and traditional underwriting to provide powerful tools and resources to our independent agents. I look forward to answering their questions and helping them navigate tricky scenarios.”
Rogers earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry, Fisheries and Wildlife from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, a master’s degree in environmental law from Vermont Law School and a juris doctor degree from the University of South Dakota School of Law.
